This is one of the most common questions we receive. Our floating furniture is wall-mounted using a time-honored French cleat system. But how much weight can they support? How strong is this system?

The answer is... it depends. The strength of the French cleat is directly tied to successful mounting. If it is properly anchored to multiple wall studs, then this system is incredibly strong. We even stand on our nightstands! 100 pounds is not a problem for a properly mounted French cleat.

So, what does "properly mounted" mean? It depends on the anchoring wood screw hitting the center of the wall stud. That's why it is essential to use a quality stud finder to mark the edges of the studs (generally 1.5 inches wide) so the anchor screws can locate the center. If not centered, anchor screws can blow out the side and weaken the wall stud, making the cleat attachment quite precarious.

We recommend using our video installation guide to ensure your furniture is securely mounted. When done correctly, this system is quite straightforward and exceptionally strong!

When it comes to mounting floating furniture pieces, the strength of using a French cleat is unparalleled. Its ability to provide stability, its versatility in design, and its ease of installation make it the go-to choice for those seeking both aesthetics and practicality. So, whether you're planning to elevate your living room with a floating TV stand or add a touch of modern elegance to your bedroom with floating nightstands, consider harnessing the power of French cleats for a secure, stylish, and space-saving solution. Your floating furniture will thank you for it.
